Types Of Pains and Causes

Osteoarthritis

The most common type is osteoarthritis which causes a degenerative process to the cartilage of the joints causing pain, swelling and restrictions in joint range of movement. Osteoarthritis can occur in almost any joint in the body, but most commonly affects the knees, hips and small joints of the hands.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Another type of arthritis is called rheumatoid arthritis and it can affect multiple joints. This type of arthritis is often more severe and occurs due to the body’s immune system attacking itself mistaking the joints and cartilage to be diseased and attacking it. This leads to pain, swelling, inflammation and often a severe reduction in quality of life.

Cervical Spondylosis (neck arthritis):

A common cause of neck pain for those in their autumn years of life. It is caused by the degenerative process of joints, discs, ligaments and muscles in the cervical region. This can commonly cause a limitation of neck movements, often in all planes of movement, and can lead to not only neck pain, but also pain from the cervical region causing headaches. In more severe cases of spondylosis, the small joints of the neck are prone to extra bone formation, called osteophytes, and the formation of these can lead to nerve compression giving rise to nerve pain in the arms, or pins and needles and numbness sensations here.
